Stories

Here are some short stories I have written:

The Big Purple Bubblegum
This is my first children's book I have published. The story is simply about a little squirrel who wants his mother to buy him a big bubblegum ball from the candy dispenser at the grocery store.

My Nightmare

There are several situations that I never want to be stuck in and one of them is being admitted to a facility for mentally unstable people, Perhaps I read too many stories when I was a child, but the idea of being locked up really bothers me. One day I let my imagination run a bit and this story was the result...

Chance Encounter

This is an entertaining short story about a little romantic encounter based loosely on a lady I met on a plane while traveling to the west coast...

Killing Time

As a child, I lived in a housing development that backed up to a freight train track. I can remember the sound of the horns and then the deep rumble of the train as it got close. Of course, we were told not to go near the tracks, but being curious children, my brother and I would love exploring over them. Although I never dared to climb onto a stopped train car, my imagination went there in this story.

Who Am I?

This is a story I dreamed up based upon a childhood experience of falling into a fast moving but very shallow river and being shocked at just how powerful it was...

Desperation

This is a story I wrote fashioned around an experience I had when I was a child. I had to enhance it a little because real life often is not as exciting as fiction.

The Story of the Sapphire Necklace

This short story was an idea I developed after doing a bit of research on sapphires and their history. Of course, I love the idea of a hidden treasure and finding one myself is always a dream. I tried to create the atmosphere of people and their lives as it related to this beautiful and precious but inanimate stone...

This is a short story I concocted based around an actual incident that I instigated years ago when I was a bit of a prankster. The idea of the hot sauce and juice switch was my idea of a funny joke to play on my friends. Of course, the circumstances did not play out like this, but they could have...

Asleep on the Beach

This is shorter short story I dreamed up while sitting at the beach a couple of summers ago. It could happen...

Lost in the middle of Civilization

This is a very short story I wrote a couple of years ago based upon some kayaking imaginations. It is purely fictional but based on real geography close to my home.

The Shop With a Story

This is a short story I wrote based on the location of a small shop on Main Street in my town of North East, MD. It is a very old building and I could just imagine finding a treasure in one of its dusty closets...I hope you enjoy it.

Caribbean Rescue

A story I wrote after being in the Caribbean on vacation a few years back. Life on the US Virgin Islands is still very different than our life in the states...

The Derelict

A story I wrote after reading about the Tent City in the Seattle area where so many normal people whose lives had been seemingly ruined by the lack of finances, found a place to live. I imagined what I think life would be like if I were a guy and suddenly had no source of money...

This is a story that I wrote after watching our mailman walking his route and wondered to myself if he ever was tempted to look at the mail he delivered. I put my pencil to my yellow pad of paper and this is what unfolded...

A romantic story I wrote while meandering down by the waterfront park in our town, just imagining...

A story I wrote after reading a news article about some school kids who had stolen a car up in a western Canada area. I tried to imagine how easy it would be to get out of school and take an afternoon off for some fun with another friend, an older brother in this story...

.

This is a story I wrote based on my imagination of what it was like as a little girl to live through the evacuation of over 5000 children from Guernsey, an island of the English Channel Islands. Prior to the German Occupation in 1940, the citizens and their children were shipped to the English mainland and other countries. There is a good book written on the subject,Guernsey Evacuees for more information. The characters are fictional.

A fictional story I wrote after taking a walk in the White Clay Creek State Park with my husband, Eric. I let my imagination run wild...
