So many times we hear the phrase, Just say, No. The original meaning was referring to the campaign started by Nancy Reagan to educate kids about drug abuse. However, the opposite phrase also has recognition as a popular song from Snow Patrol, but I am not thinking of a love song. There are so many creative people that just need to say, 'Yes' to developing their talent. With the economies being unstable in so many countries, I understand that it is not always practical financially to give up your day job to start writing or drawing or pursuing your dream, but at least try to make some time every week to develop that gift. Not only will you enjoy it, but eventually, others will enjoy your work as well,
I think about the many times I wish I had said no to something - nothing drastic, but still painful. On the other hand, how many times do I wish that I had said yes, but backed down in fear. We only have so many days to live and none of us wants to waste their life.
Think of the great novelists like Hemmingway and what beauty he added to our lives through his stories, or Robert Louis Stevenson who was the starting point for the English short story and the source of so many imaginary tales like Treasure Island, or the melodrama of Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. All of these people were artists that said yes to developing their talents.
What is your talent?
