Creative Genius

Have you looked at someone and thought, They are so creative, assuming that maybe they were born that way, with a special knack for producing quality when in fact, they have to learn to be creative. One of the best ways I know of to find new ways of doing something is facing a lack. It could be a lack of money that forces you to use the resources at hand or a lack of time that inspires a new idea. Whatever the source of the lack, it is usually irritating.

I was reading an excellent article from the Wall Street Journal by Jonah Lehrer on this very subject, How to Be Creative where Jonah dispels the idea that creativity is an innate characteristic of a few people. Creativity is a skill, developed by people who tackle problems instead of ignoring them. One of the best times to find answers is when your brain has a chance to relax, hence you will have a 'flash' when you are napping, or the next day, or while you think about something totally unrelated, like the writers do for Hugh Laurie in the television series, House.

I guess we have to allow ourselves to face irritation more often if we want to experience that flash of genius. What do you think?

  1. That is a beautiful picture. Thanks again for visiting. Enjoyed your post.

  2. It's honest to say that employing creativy IS a lot of hard work. Thank you for bringing this to light!

  3. Hi Heide
Nice article! I agree that sometimes you have to go through the irritation to get to the inspiration! Sometimes it's easier to look at other people and think they're different, luckier, etc. The truth, that we all have the capacity for great creativity but don't all use it, is more scary in a way, but much more empowering if you truly embrace it.
